Project Update

Moving Forward in Murrells Inlet

Asha Vista Behavioral Institute is moving forward with an inpatient behavioral health hospital in Murrells Inlet to provide short-term, intensive psychiatric care for adults experiencing a mental health crisis.

Where We are Now

Following the county vote, the project is progressing through the standard development milestones—closing activities, permitting, renovation planning, hiring, and state licensing.Asha Vista Behavioral Institute is a specialized behavioral health provider focused on short-stay, inpatient mental health care for adults in Horry, Georgetown, and surrounding counties.

Latest Milestone

County Council Vote: 8–4
The project is moving into implementation. Our focus is now on permitting, renovation readiness, hiring preparation, and clear communication so the community knows what to expect.

(What to expect, in order)

Milestone 1: Closing (Q1 2026)
We are working toward closing on the building during Q1 2026.

Milestone 2: Site Security Begins (Immediately upon closing)
Immediately upon closing, the property will have a visible security presence and enhanced exterior monitoring.

Milestone 3: Permitting & Pre-Construction (In progress)
Permitting is underway. During this phase, community members may see intermittent site visits by project partners and contractors.

Milestone 4: On-Site Activity & Renovation Begins (Anticipated April)
As permits are finalized, community members can expect increased on-site activity, including equipment and contractor presence as renovation work begins (anticipated in April).

Milestone 5: Hiring & Training (As renovation progresses)
As the project advances, we will begin hiring a range of clinical and non-clinical roles and preparing staff through onboarding and training.

Milestone 6: Licensing & Readiness (Final steps before opening)
Before opening, the hospital must complete required state licensing and operational readiness steps.

  • Increased vehicles and equipment as renovation progresses
